Looking for some enthusiastic help in childcare. Sole charge. James(9)and Ruth (4) are both in full time education at a school 3 miles from home so you need to be a driver with a valid drivers license. We will provide the car. Sonning, the village where we live, is a picturesque, quiet riverside village in Berkshire near Henley and Oxford. You would be living in one of the very pretty timber-frame houses; we have a large garden in which the children love to play. You would have a floor of the house to yourself with your own bathroom , snug (sitting room would be an exaggeration) and bedroom. Tea making facilities would be available.
The town of Reading is 3.5 miles away with non-stop trains to London Paddington and good communications with Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. Also direct trains to the West Country, Cornwall and the North of England.
The job involves dropping our children at school for 0800 three days a week and then picking up at 3pm with ongoing care till 7pm each weekday.
If I was giving references for my own children I would say James is laid back to the horizontal, great company and a pleasure to be with. He can be a bit disorganised and prone to losing things but has a great sense of humour. Ruths teachers say she is going to be a stand up comedian. She has great timing and has a classic quote from the Italian Job. A typical second child she is there and back again and superbly tolerated by her elder brother.
Mum and dad (Tom and Anne) are both hospital consultants (radiology and anaesthesia) at The Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. Generally we get home by 1830. Once we are home you are free. You would be part of the family but we take our time with the children in a very practical way and would not expect your help outside the hours stated.
Babysitting one evening a week.
No formal childcare qualifications are required. You need to be someone who likes children, is reliable and trustworthy.
Basic English essential. Would fund Language course (available in Reading or Henley) if needed.
First Aid desirable but again local courses available that we would fund.
CRB check desirable but we would apply for one on appointment and tenure would depend on the outcome of the check.
No pets at the moment but considering hens and a cat.
Start date flexible but as soon as possible.
